The history of Photosol

Key moments in the Photosol adventure

2008

Creation of Photosol

Photosol was founded in 2008 with a clear ambition: to make an active contribution to the energy transition by developing large-scale solar energy in France and Europe. Photosol’s mission is to respond to energy challenges with a threefold strength: complete mastery of the skills required at every stage of a project, the ingenuity and agility of its teams and proactive R&D.

2010

Authorisation for the first ground-based photovoltaic installation at Sarrazac (Lot)

Located in a natural area, the Sarrazac photovoltaic plant is part of an approach to enhancing natural areas and promoting the energy transition, while supporting local development. The 11.5 MWp project is designed to supply electricity to around 15,000 people.

2013

Commissioning of the first ground-based photovoltaic installation at Marmanhac (Cantal)

With a capacity of 12 MWp, the Marmanhac installation has become a pilot site for a study conducted by INRAE and JPEE on the impact of solar panels on grassland ecosystems. The results show that biomass production is maintained, forage resources are spread more evenly over time, and the microclimatic conditions created by the panels are favorable for grass growth.

2015

100 MWp of photovoltaic installations in France

Photosol reaches a key milestone by surpassing 100 MWp in France, including both operational and under-construction projects. This achievement reflects our strong commitment to the energy transition and our growing position in the renewable energy sector.

2017

Commissioning of the largest agrivoltaic installation at Verneuil (Nièvre)

Built on a 70-hectare site and with an output of 43 MWp, the Verneuil facility is considered to be one of the pioneering sites in the field of agrivoltaics, and a true testament to the relevance of this promising agricultural practice.

Photosol joins the Rubis group

Photosol is strengthening its position with a number of strategic developments: integration into the renewable energy division of the Rubis group, an independent French player that has been committed to providing access to reliable energy for over 30 years. The company has also acquired Mobexi, a Gers-based company, expanding its range of solar solutions for new buildings, existing roofs and car parks.

2023

Photosol confirms its position as a major player in the sector

Photosol strengthens its leadership with a number of key advances: board member of the FFPA, partner of the national research cluster on agri-photovoltaics, and elected member of the Strategic Orientation Committee. The company also obtained planning permission for its Creil facility, the second largest in France, and expanded internationally to Italy, Spain and Poland.

2024

Photosol exceeds GW and diversifies its energy offering

In 2024, Photosol will pass the 1 GW mark in secured projects and expand its national presence. The company is strengthening its local energy offering by acquiring a majority stake in ENER 5, which specialises in photovoltaic systems on industrial roofs, agricultural buildings and car park shadings. It is also diversifying its offering in the fields of storage, self-consumption and electric mobility.
