La Rochefoucauld agrivoltaic park (16)

The project

Located in the municipality of La Rochefoucauld in Charente, the agrivoltaic installation in La Rochefoucauld is situated on a forage pasture area. With the shared ambition of the landowner and Photosol to maintain agricultural activity on the parcel, the project combines sheep farming and the local production of renewable electricity. To best meet the needs of the livestock activity, additional facilities have been planned: water points for the sheep, fencing of the parcel to protect against predators, etc. These additions contribute to the well-being of the animals and ensure controlled vegetation coverage.

Charente, a Key Region for Photosol

Since 2012, Photosol has been present in Charente with the installation and operation of rooftop systems in the municipalities of Vouthon and Montbron, and since 2016 with the operation of the Saint-Martial ground-mounted park, in synergy with a sheep farming workshop. Since then, Photosol has been committed to giving a second life to fallow land and also thinking more broadly about the synergy between agricultural and energy production.

« I am a local operator with a sheep farming activity in municipalities very close to La Rochefoucauld. I was contacted and included in this project from the beginning in 2010. Today, the 5 hectares of the site allow me to expand the grazing area and, consequently, the size of my flock. From about a hundred sheep this year, I hope to have 150 next year and eventually reach 250. What’s important to me is the well-being of my animals: the shade and shelter provided by the panels, the good condition of equipment like the water troughs, fences, and the handling pen. The availability of this land, the equipment, and the compensation received for maintaining the site allow me to continue my activity more confidently in the long term. »

Thierry Texier, Farmer

« I really enjoyed developing this agrivoltaic project with Photosol: professionalism and accessibility were at the heart of our partnership. As the landowner, I was involved from the very beginning of the project design, as well as throughout the administrative and legal phases. The choice of the farmer was crucial, as I wanted it to be a local operator and for the project to truly support the continuation of agricultural activity in the area. We were aligned on this point with Photosol. A real relationship of trust was built, which is essential for the long term.»
